Welcome for all things Alternative!
Your description for this link...
I have really enjoyed tracing this to my own research findings, but imagining a way to rethink alternative education, namely continuation schools as they have been created with ALL of the wrong drivers. Piecemeal integrations, no purpose, lack of financial support for Social and Emotional learning. As a state we need to focus on creating continuation schools as a space for student to find their purpose. We have the flexibility with structure, it is time we use it. But even now, there is more push for proving students are college and career ready, but not enough space to teach students those things. We have some work to do, but let's use the right drivers to carry us in this work.
I don't know about you, but distance learning has been extremely awesome and extremely terrible. Very little in between. With a TKer and a 7th grader it has been eye opening to see what is going on in classrooms. As a teacher mom, I have loved supporting my kids and their passions. We have had time to learn together and create together. My daughter has been learning a lot about cryptocurrency and FTC spaces. This is high level stuff because it is uses so much abstract thinking. Here is her artwork in a FTC space. Don't really ask me about what this is...I am no expert.
I have had a goal of creating a e-sports league for alternative education for YEARS! What is holding me up is internet and bandwidth issues. I think to start schools would all need a one stop shop for what to do and how to you create non-in person spaces for tournaments. This is the only thing holding me back! If you know anyone who could help, please connect me. I want all of our alted students to have the opportunity to play with each other without a huge out of pocket expense.
